Kenzie Crews signs with WBU swimming

Kenzie Crews, a sprint freestyler from Fort Worth, has signed to become a part of the Wayland Baptist swimming and diving program.

Crews, who attends Trinity High School, has focused on the 50 and 100 freestyle.

"My goal is to expand that to the 200 freestyle as well as see what other strokes we can make stronger," WBU coach Alyson Hannan said. "Kenzie hasn't been swimming very long, so the best is yet to come for her. She is very close to the national times, and our goal is to get her to those cuts."

Crews said she knew she wanted to attend Wayland the first time she set foot on campus.

"As soon as I walked on campus I felt at home," she said. "The coaches genuinely care about me and my success, and the team was kind and welcoming. I really felt like the Lord was leading me to Wayland and I can't wait to see all the opportunities that open up for me there, both athletically and academically."

An International Baccalaureate student, Crews was named Trinity High School Trojan Woman of the Year for 2014-15. She was her team's Most Valuable Swimmer for the 2015-16 swim season and is serving as captain this season.

"We are very excited to have Kenzie join the program and add more depth to our women's team," Hannan said.

Crews is the seventh recruit and third female to sign with WBU swimming this year, joining Daric Sundeen, a flyer, backstroker and freestyler from Golden, Colo.; Alan Senn, a distance swimmer from Albuquerque, N.M.; Colton Wyatt, a sprint freestyler from North Richland Hills; Sarah Grace Stephenson, a freestyler and flyer from Round Rock; Albany McDonald, a distance freestyler from Portland; and Cameron Cardenas, a breaststroker and freestyler from Georgetown.

The Pioneer women's team currently is ranked sixth in the NAIA.
