Bond named National Swimmer of Week

Wayland Baptist's Andrea Bond has been named CollegeSwimming's National NAIA Women's Swimmer of the Week.

CollegeSwimming recognizes the country's top men's and women's swimmers in NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and NJCA.

Bond, a freshman from Russellville, Ark., turned in a strong overall performance for the fourth-ranked Pioneers at a Jan. 7 meet in Colorado Springs against Colorado College and Ohio Northern.

For the season, she owns the NAIA's third-fastest time in the 50-yard freestyle (24.28), fourth-fastest in the 100 free (52.97) and eighth-fastest in the 100 fly (58.87). She also has helped WBU to the NAIA's second-best time in the 200 freestyle relay (1:37.05), fourth-fastest in the 400 free relay (3:38.48), and third-fastest in the 200 medley relay (1:49.55).

Last year Bond was inducted into Russellville High School's Cyclone Sports Hall of Fame, the first swimmer in school history to receive the honor which is based on academics, character and athletic achievements.

Wayland swimming next competes Jan. 21 in Midland against Texas-Permian Basin and Southwestern. They then swim at Last Chance Time Trials in Southland on Feb. 4 prior to NAIA Nationals March 1-4 in Columbia, Ga.
