Beaubouef's hat trick carries soccer women to 4-2 victory over Bacone College

Box Score MUSKOGEE, Okla. – On the strength of Chelsea Beaubouef's hat trick, the Wayland Baptist women's soccer team picked up a much-needed 4-2 victory over Bacone College n Sooner Athletic Conference play here Saturday afternoon.

A senior from New Orleans who joined the Pioneers last season, Beaubouef's three goals were her first of the season and matched her career high. She joins four other Pioneers who have scored a program-record three times in a match: Jodian Morris, who did it twice; Emarie Holland who did it four times; Kathleen Stewart and Renee Ulloa.

After an 8-0 loss to No. 23 John Brown on Thursday in Arkansas, Wayland was a bit stunned.

"We played very well with John Brown until the second half, then just ran out of legs since we are short on healthy players," Wayland coach Shiloh Posey said. "I was pleased with the effort, even though the result wasn't what we wanted."

The results were much better against Bacone (2-9, 0-3).

"We started a bit slow and almost got caught a couple of times early in the game. We worked some things out and began to move the ball much better," Posey said. "We finally broke through and scored about 26 minutes in."

That was Beaubouef's first strike, and the first of three quickies for the Pioneers. Stone Graham scored her second goal of the season less than three minutes later, then some three minutes after that Beaubouef struck again to make it 3-0.

Bacone got on the board with a goal eight minutes into the second half, but Beaubouef got it back for Wayland in the 54th minute. The Warriors made it 4-2 at the 73:44 mark, then neither team scored the rest of the way.

"We were able to break through several more times, but could only make three more pay off (after Beaubouef's initial goal)," Posey said.

The shot total was 13-12 in favor of Wayland, with nine of those coming from Beaubouef who was on-target on all but two.

Erin Moon recorded six saves to earn the win in goal.

"The girls put in two great efforts over the weekend, and I was happy to go 1-1," Posey said. "I'm pleased with the overall effort from the girls."

Now in sixth place in the league standings, Wayland (3-7, 2-2) returns home to face always-challenging Oklahoma City (5-4, 1-2) at 4 p.m. Tuesday. The Pioneers have beaten the Stars two of their last three meetings.  OCU lost to No. 22 Science and Arts of Oklahoma on Friday in Chickasha, 5-0.

"We will get as much rest as possible and take the match as it comes," Posey said.
