Maci Merket hit five 3-pointers and scored 21 points to go with nine rebounds, leading sixth-ranked Wayland Baptist to a 91-64 Sooner Athletic Conference victory over Southwestern Assemblies of God University here Thursday night.
The Flying Queens (17-3, 10-2 SAC) were never challenged by the Lady Lions (7-12, 4-9), leading 21-15 after the first quarter and 47-31 at the half. They didn't let up in the second half, outscoring SAGU in the third period, 20-16, and in the fourth, 24-17.
Besides Merket, four other Flying Queens scored in double figures.
Deborah VanDijk ended with 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting,
Kendrick Clark chipped in 15 points,
Nina Sato 11 and
Jada Riley 10.
Kelea Pool was one point shy of giving WBU a sixth double-figure scorer.
Wayland shot 46 percent (32-of-69) from the field, including 36 percent (8-of-22) from 3-point range. The Flying Queens made 19-of-25 free throws (76 percent).
WBU outrebounded the Lady Lions, 44-27. Besides Merket's nine boards, VanDijk and Sato had seven each.
Morgan Bennett, who leads the NAIA in assists with more than five a game, dished out seven of Wayland's 25 helpers.
SAGU, which lost to Wayland on Dec. 2 in Plainview, 66-47, got 14 points from Kiarra Glenn, 12 from Mckenzie Martin and 10 from Sydney Meador.
The Flying Queens will next be in action at 1 p.m. Saturday in Fort Worth against Texas Wesleyan (7-14, 4-8), a 71-63 loser at home Thursday to Oklahoma Panhandle State. Wayland defeated Texas Wesleyan in the first half of league play, 88-79.
