James Westfield have been named Apex Collision Center Student-Athletes of the Week.
Breding, a 5-foot-3 libero from Albuquerque, N.M., helped the Pioneers return to their winning ways with a 25-13, 25-8, 25-14 road win over Science & Arts of Oklahoma. She recorded 13 digs and had a perfect serve-reception percentage with 11 attempts and a perfect service percentage with nine attempts. She also recorded two assists and two kills.
Breding was honored as Sooner Athletic Conference Defender of the Week for the period of Sept. 29-Oct. 5. It was the third career such honor for the two-time all-conference honorable mention honoree who last season earned academic all-conference and NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors.
The Pioneers (10-13, 5-6 SAC) play at 7 p.m. tonight at Mid-America Christian before returning home this weekend to take on Central Christian at 7 p.m. Friday and Langston at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Westfield, a 5-foot-9 senior midfielder from Southport, Liverpool, England, led the Pioneers to a pair of Sooner Athletic Conference wins over Southwestern Assemblies of God, 2-1 on the road, and 3-0 over Central Christian, Kan.
Westfield scored both of WBU's goals against SAGU, including the game-winner in overtime, for his eighth career multi-goal match, three of which have come in his last six outings. He took a career-high nine shots, three more than his previous high earlier this season. All but two of his shots were on-goal.
Westfield scored another goal against Central Christian to give him six points for the week.
A two-time first-team all-conference honoree, Westfield now has 12 goals on the season, ranking third in the SAC. He has scored in all but two of Wayland's 10 matches this year and continues to add to his program-best career goals total that currently stands at 32.
The Pioneers (7-1-2, 3-1-0 SAC) next play John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Ark., at 3 p.m. Saturday.
Wayland Baptist Athletics appreciates the support of Apex Collision Center.
