Cesar Amador have been named Apex Collision Center Student-Athletes of the Week.
Versano enjoyed his best week as a Pioneer, scoring two goals and dishing out four assists in two matches. In a 7-1 win over Howard Payne, Versano scored his first goal of the season and had a career-best three assists (equaling his total from last season) in a 7-1 victory. Then in a 3-3 road tie with Paul Quinn, Versano had one goal and one assist, taking his point total for the week to eight.
A 5-foot-8 senior midfielder from Azor, Israel, Versano ranks fourth in the NAIA in assists per game (1.0) and eighth in total assists (6).
Versano and the Pioneers take an unbeaten 4-0-2 record into the start of Sooner Athletic Conference play in a 6 p.m. match Tuesday at home against Oklahoma-Panhandle State. The WBU women host the Aggies beginning at 4.
Amador, a sophomore from Springlake-Earth High School, impressed cross country coach
Brian Whitlock at the Texas Tech Open. Amador ran a time of 29 minutes, 58 seconds over the 8-kilometer course at Lubbock Christian University's Chaparral Ridge Golf Course, finishing in 58
th place out of more than 100 runners.
"I was really happy with Cesar. He did a good job training and was my fifth man today," said Whitlock, adding that Amador trained over the summer and came back to school in shape ready to compete.
The cross country team is scheduled to compete in two weeks at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark.
