Wayland Baptist's Overwatch team picked up another win to highlight the Pioneer eSports week.
From the Meadows Mothership computer lab, the Overwatch team defeated Brewton-Parker College (Ga.) last Monday, 3-0.
"I am so proud of the Overwatch team for keeping their cool and earning that third win for the season," coach
Duncan Sweeney said.
The victory came after Overwatch earned the first "on-screen" (non-forfeit) wins in program history the previous week, 3-0 over Keiser University (Fla.) and 3-0 over St. Andrew's (N.C.).
WBU's Overwatch team – consisting of
Eric Walters,
Carl Walker-Lane,
Zachary Neeley,
Alex Spencer,
Alli Ferguson and
John Winn – is favored to win again tonight when it has a rematch with Keiser. It would be the sixth victory for the Pioneers, who have a 5-18 record.
"We have been working incredibly hard, trying to get everyone to know what they need for their next match," Sweeney said of the team's scouting efforts.
Last Monday's win over Brewton-Parker was the only victory of the week for Wayland, which saw losses in Rocket League to Cornell College (Iowa) and Lakeland University (Wis.), in Valorant to McMurry, in Overwatch to Coker University (S.C.), and in Smash Bros. to Texas A&M.
Besides tonight's Overwatch game vs. Keiser, WBU eSports will be in action nightly through Thursday before taking the weekend off.
Playoffs begin for most teams the week of Nov. 2.
