Jenna Cooper-Jackson recorded another double-double, and
Kaitlyn Edgemon almost got one of her own as the pair led No. 10 Wayland Baptist to an 82-63 victory over Our Lady of the Lake University as part of the Queens Classic on Friday at Hutcherson Center.
In a rematch of an NAIA National Tournament opening round game in the Hutch last March which the Queens won 89-68, Wayland (2-1) pulled away from the Saints (2-1) in the second half. WBU led by just seven, 39-32, at halftime, but led the visitors from San Antonio by as many as 22 in the second half.
Cooper-Jackson produced 15 points and 10 assists along with five rebounds, while Edgemon produced 26 points – 20 in the second half – nine boards and five steals.
Maria Ghaleb hit 8-of-10 field goals and wound up with 17 points, while
Kynnan Shields got eight points off the bench.
OLLU, under first-year coach Tanya Ray, was led by Madelyn Soto's 16 points, while Cormia Lewis and Natalia Trevino added a dozen each.
The Queens have a short turn-around before their next tip-off at noon Saturday against LSU-Alexandria (0-3), which fell Friday to Science & Arts of Oklahoma, 88-60.
