Edgemon, Pham repeat as SAC Scholar-Athletes of the Year

For the second consecutive year, Wayland Baptist's Kaylee Edgemon and Nina Pham have been named Sooner Athletic Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Year in women's basketball and women's wrestling, respectively.

Edgemon, a forward from Littlefield, repeated as SAC Student-Athlete of the Year in women's basketball after becoming the first-ever four-time NAIA All-American (two-time First Team, two-time Honorable Mention) in the prestigious history of the Flying Queens. She finished her career as the fourth-leading scorer in program history with 1,856 points and shared the Roy McClung Award as Wayland's most outstanding senior female student-athlete in 2021-22.

Edgemon – who this past season led WBU to the SAC regular-season and tournament titles, a No. 8 national ranking and the Round of 16 at the national tournament – is a two-time SAC Player of the Year and also was SAC Newcomer of the Year. She is a CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-American and two-time NAIA Scholar-Athlete, SAC Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-SAC.

An elementary education major, Edgemon posted a 3.92 GPA as an undergraduate. She is a second-grade teacher in Brownfield.

Pham is one of the most decorated wrestlers in the history of Wayland. A native of San Jose, Calif., she was a two-time NAIA National Invitational champion at 101 pounds after finishing as runner-up as a sophomore. At nationals this year she outscored opponents a combined 53-1. Pham finished the season 15-2 after going undefeated the previous season. She placed second at the 2022 U.S. Open and at the U23 Nationals to secure a spot on U23 National Team. Last year Pham was the SAC Student-Athlete of Year in women's wrestling and this spring earned CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team.

Pham earned a degree in exercise and sport science, posting a 3.84 cumulative GPA. She plans to join the Navy and be part of the World Class Athletic Program (WCAP).

Other SAC Scholar-Athletes of the Year in women's sports are Allika Pearson of John Brown, cross country and track & field; Rachel Eckert, Oklahoma City University, golf; Aubrey Mendez, golf; Emily Cerny, softball; and Sophia Salak, volleyball.

Each SAC school was able to nominate one student-athlete per sport. Voting was by SAC sports information directors.

Edgemon, Pham and all SAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year sport winners now are eligible for overall SAC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
