Former Wayland Baptist goalkeeper Gonzalo Santa Martinez has signed with the Dallas Sidekicks.
This will be Santa Martinez's first season with the Sidekicks and his first in the Major Arena Soccer League.
Prior to coming to Wayland, Santa Martinez, of Yecla, Murcia, Spain, played soccer for two seasons at Laredo College. He earned Defensive Player of the Season in 2018 and helped Laredo College win an NJCAA national championship.
He transferred to Wayland and played two seasons with the Pioneers. He compiled a .833 save percentage and recorded three shutouts with a 6-4-3 record in goal during the 2019 season. In 2020, he recorded a 3-2 record with one shutout and a .703 save percentage.
He also received NAIA Scholar-Athlete, CoSIDA Academic All-District and Academic All-Sooner Athletic Conference honors and was a three-time SAC Defensive Player of the Week.
Outside of the Sidekicks, Santa Martinez works at Foro Sports Club in Dallas.
