Plainview, Texas – On Monday, December 4
th, Wayland Baptist held their 2023 Fall Athletics Awards Ceremony to recognize 30 athletes for their success during their respective seasons. These awards were voted upon by the coaches and players of the respective teams.
In Football, sophomore offensive lineman Marjome Rachel took home the Offensive MVP. The Defensive MVP award went to senior defensive lineman Gabriel Aplicano-Tito. Junior Leo Marini was awarded the Special Teams MVP award. The two athletes awarded the Pioneer Spirit award were wide receiver Dequan Green and Max Hernandez. The athletes awarded the Fighting Heart Award were junior tight end Dylan Jerden and senior Andrew Villa.
For Volleyball, Sophomore outside hitter Fade Ogunbade took home the MVP award. Junior Alyssa Vasquez was awarded the Newcomer of the Year. The Ashleah Richards Defensive Player of the Year award went to junior Selma Sutaj. Sophomore Haley Fosset received the 2023 Academic award after winning the 2022 Most Improved Player Award.
For Varsity Men's Soccer, sophomore forward Jamol Williams took home the Player of the Season Award. Newcomer of the year was awarded to junior Jose Colina, and the Most Improved Player was given to senior Owen Thomas. Center back Adam Uddenberg was recognized as the Best Teammate. For the Men's Soccer Reserve Awards, senior Joel Nandin was named Player of the Season. Freshman Vincent Franco was given awarded Newcomer of the Season, and center midfielder Jose Bucio was named the Most Improved Player. Goalkeeper Yoherlian Bejarano Molina was recognized as the Best Teammate.
Women's Soccer named senior Francisca Castello Gonzales as the MVP. The Offensive Player of the Year was Giovanna Toledo Castro, and Defensive Player of the Year was awarded to Chloe Marmitt. Freshman Gabriella Chapa and junior Hayde' Gallardo were named Co-Newcomers of the Year.
Sophomore Malachi Macias takes home the 2023 MVP award for Men's Cross Country after winning the 2022 Newcomer of the Year award. David Garcia was named Newcomer of the Year. The Character Award was presented to Ethan Jonason.
Women's Cross Country named Celeste Lozano as the MVP. The Newcomer of the Year was awarded to Shanniel Graham. Daniel Pacheco was presented with the Character Award.
