Softball falls to Howard College, 11-2

BIG SPRING – Wayland Baptist's day started strong with two first-inning runs, but the Pioneers didn't score again as they fell to Howard College here Saturday afternoon, 11-2. The game ended after 4½ innings on the eight-run rule.

The Hawks (7-11) – who also won Friday, 10-9 in nine innings – scored during every at-bat, including four in both the first and third innings.

The Pioneers (2-3) ended with seven hits, two each by Reagan Davis and A. Soto. A. Rodriguez and M. Carrillo scored Wayland's runs, with Soto credited with an RBI.

Wayland stranded a dozen base runners.

The Hawks managed 11 hits off Pioneer pitchers A Bauler, who threw the first two innings and took the loss, and A. Lopez.

WBU committed the game's only error.

The Pioneers are back on the road Monday to take on Odessa College at 3 p.m. They'll end the week with a doubleheader Friday afternoon at Cisco College.

(Wayland is playing an exhibition schedule in 2023 before competing as a Sooner Athletic Conference team with a countable schedule in 2024).
