Queens Victorious on the Road Against SCU in Sooner Athletic Conference Game

Bethany, Oklahoma – Linda Brice went for 18 points and Megan Nestor recorded another double-double as they RV Flying Queens got back in the win column on Saturday afternoon with a road Sooner Athletic Conference win at Southwestern Christian University (10-9, 6-7 SAC).
 
RV Wayland Baptist (16-4, 11-3 SAC) was down early 16-6 with just under three minutes remaining in the first quarter, but freshman Peyton North went on a 5-0 run by herself capped off by a successful and-one conversion. The Eagles were able to respond with an and-one of their own and take a 19-11 lead into the second quarter.
 
The Queens began the second quarter on a fast 6-0 run to trim the Eagles lead to 19-17 after Nestor converted a couple of free throws and Linda Brice sunk a 3-pointer. With the Queens trailing 21-20 with just under six minutes until the halftime break, Nestor went on a 5-0 personal run to give the Queens a 24-21 lead. The Eagles took a two-point lead with just over a minute until the intermission, but Brice came down to the other end of the floor and hit another 3-pointer to give the Queens a 30-29 halftime lead.
 
The Flying Queens began the second half with a 5-0 run after a jumper by Bobbie Fouquet and a 3-pointer by Ellie Bruffey to extend their lead to 35-29. With just over three minutes left in the third quarter, the Eagles were able to storm back and take a 39-38 lead. With just over two minutes until the fourth quarter, the Queens hit three straight jumpers, two by Brice and one by Fouquet, to go up 45-41. After Brice hit a couple of free throws, the Queens took a 47-44 lead into the final period.
 
After an Emily Sigala bucket with just over three minutes remaining in regulation and the Queens leading by 7, Nestor created a steal and quick bucket for Peyton North to extend their lead to 60-51. The Queens were able to put the game on ice after a Nestor bucket with :21 seconds left to make the score 64-52, which would be the final score.
 
Coach Jason Cooper talked about his team's effort today saying, "It was a great team effort today. We had a huge task guarding the 2nd leading scorer in the SAC and two of the top 5 3-pt shooters in the SAC. We played our best team defense of the year."
 
When talking about freshman Peyton North's big game, Coach Cooper said, "The big story was Peyton North. She came in and gave us 19 huge minutes and defended some very experienced and talented guards for SCU. She put in 8 big points and had 3 big steals. She put the game out of reach late with a steal and a layup."
 
Linda Brice went for 18 points, 8 rebounds, and grabbed 5 offensive boards. Megan Nestor had 14 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 steals. Bobbie Fouquet had 12 points and 6 rebounds. Peyton North had 8 points and 3 steals in 19 minutes off the bench.
 
Up next for the RV Flying Queens is a return home to face Sooner Athletic Conference foe Oklahoma City University (6-14, 5-9 SAC). Tip is set for Thursday night at 6:00 PM.
