Arlington – The 18
th ranked Wayland Baptist Flying Queens made their 2024-2025 regular season debut a memorable one, taking down Arlington Baptist 117-43 behind 31 points and 16 rebounds from 2023-24 NAIA All-American,
Megan Nestor.
The Flying Queens had a solid afternoon shooting the ball as they finished 44-74 on shot attempts for 59.5%, while shooting 8-18 from three-point range for 44.4%. The Queens also took advantage of the Patriots putting them on the foul line – converting 21-26 free throw attempts for 80.8%. The 20 turnovers for the Wayland Baptist offense were high, but those will get cleaned up as the season plays on and the chemistry begins to gel with this group.
The Queens caused havoc defensively and forced the Patriots into 24 turnovers. Arlington Baptist was held to 17-66 shooting from the floor for 25.8% and 5-33 from three-point range for 15.2%.
Nestor finished with 31 points, while shooting 14-19 from the floor, 16 rebounds, including 12 offensive rebounds, and a block. Fouquet scored 18 points while shooting 7-10 from the floor, grabbed five rebounds, dished six assists, and had two steals. Brice finished with 11 points, five rebounds, four assists, and a steal. Jerden added nine points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
Hurtado was solid off the bench for the Flying Queens in her collegiate debut – finishing with 17 points on a perfect 5-5 from the floor. Popovic entered off the bench and contributed 13 points, two rebounds, three assists, and a team-high four steals.

Chelsea Hunter talked about the win saying, "We dominated on the inside. Megan and Brooklyn had really good games, and we had a ton of assists. We were moving the ball well. Bobbie had a good all-around game. I liked us hitting eight threes today, because that's something that we wanted to improve on this season. Overall, just a really great start to the season."
Next week, the Flying Queens will host the annual Flying Queens Classic. The Flying Queens will host Oklahoma Panhandle State University, Northern New Mexico University, Our Lady of the Lake University, and Texas A&M-San Antonio for the Classic.
The Queens will take on Our Lady of the Lake in their first game of the Queens Classic on Wednesday, November 6
th at 6:00 PM. The Queens will then take on Texas A&M-San Antonio on Friday, November 8
th at 2:00 PM to close out the 2024 Queens Classic.
