The Wayland Baptist Football team had two players recognized by the NCCAA as 2024 All-NCCAA performers after their stellar seasons –
Jasiah Barron was named First Team All-NCCAA recognition and
Donovan Henry earned Second Team All-NCCAA honors.
A McKinney, Texas native, Barron earned his second "First Team" award after he was easily the Pioneers most productive receiver this season. Barron also earned SAC First Team All-Conference honors, as well as NAIA Third Team All-American recognition.
Barron finished the year with 73 receptions, 1,111 yards, and nine touchdowns. He finished with 613 more yards than the second-best total for any receiver on the Pioneer offense. Barron averaged 111.1 receiving yards per game (5
th in the NAIA), 7.3 receptions per game (6
th in NAIA), and his 73 receptions on the season ranked him 9
th in the NAIA.
Barron also rewrote the Pioneer Football record books this season by setting new program records for yards in a season (1,111), receptions (73), receiving yards in a single-game (261), and receptions in a single-game (15).
On November 9
th in a road game against Texas College, Barron put up the greatest single-game performance by a Pioneer receiver in program history when he went for 12 receptions for 261 yards and two touchdowns. He went for an average of 21.8 yards per catch that game.
On the defensive side of the ball, sophomore safety
Donovan Henry was everywhere for the Pioneers providing great leadership to the defense. Henry finished the 2024 season with 69 total tackles, including 45 solo tackles, one sack, three interceptions, a fumble recovery, and six pass break ups.
This is Henry's second postseason award after earning a SAC Second Team All-Conference honors as well. Earlier this season, Henry was named a NCCAA Defensive Student Athlete of the Week after a great performance on the road against Sul Ross State where he finished with a team-high 11 tackles and forced a huge fumble on the goal-line that sparked a Pioneer comeback.
Henry had a terrific showing against a tough OUAZ team back in October when he finished the game with 13 tackles, including ten solo tackles, and an interception.
