Plainview, Texas – The Flying Queens are preparing to host Southwestern Assemblies of God University in the Opening Round of the Oklahoma Ford Dealer's Sooner Athletic Conference tournament after finishing their regular season with a 21-7 overall record and 16-6 in SAC play.
Wayland Baptist is coming off a road loss to these same SAGU Lions just four days ago on the final day of the regular season. The two teams split the regular season matchups at one each with the Queens taking the first game in Plainview by a score of 67-58, and taking a 70-51 loss in the second meeting.
In their first meeting, Flying Queen sophomore
Megan Nestor had 24 points and 22 rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench. The Queens defense also held the Lions to just 34% shooting and 26.5% from 3-point range. The Lions only saw two players reach double figures in scoring for the game. The Queens also outscored the Lions 37-24 in bench points, as well as second chance points at 16-6.
Game 2 saw Wayland Baptist go cold from the floor after shooting 25% from the field, 12% from 3-point range, and 50% from the free throw line. The results were opposite in the second meeting, as the Queens only had two scorers reach double figures in Nestor and
Linda Brice, while the Lions had four scorers get to double digits in their 70-51 win on Senior Day.
Megan Nestor concluded her regular season averaging 15.5 PPG, 13.1 RPG which would break the Flying Queen single-season record, while shooting 57% from the floor.
Linda Brice is averaging 16 PPG, 3.8 RPG, and has 52 total steals on the campaign. Freshman,
Bobbie Fouquet, is averaging 10.5 PPG, 4.7 RPG, and just over two assists per game.
Taylor Houston is averaging 8.9 PPG, 5.7 RPG, while shooting 53% from the floor.
Emily Sigala is adding 7.2 PPG, 4.6 APG, and 124 total assists on the year – leading the Flying Queens by a large margin.
The Flying Queens will tip off against SAGU in the Oklahoma Ford Dealer's Sooner Athletic Conference Opening Round on Thursday night at 6:00 PM from the Hutcherson Center with the opportunity to advance to the Semi-Final matchup in Fort Worth at the host location, Texas Wesleyan University.
