Queens Pull Away from SAGU to Advance to Oklahoma Ford Dealer's SAC Semi-Final Round Against Langston

Plainview, Texas – Sophomore Megan Nestor goes for 28 points to lead the Flying Queens to a 20-point victory over SAGU in the Oklahoma Ford Dealer's Sooner Athletic Conference Quarterfinal Round.

Wayland Baptist fell behind early in the first quarter 11-6 after a Lion 3-pointer, but the Queens answered right back with Nestor getting an easy bucket off the pass from Emily Sigala. Taylor Houston went on a quick 4-0 scoring run by herself to bring the Queens back even with the Lions at 16 with just under two minutes to go in the opening period. The Lions drained their last three shots of the first quarter to take a 24-18 lead into the second.

Nestor got the Queens rolling in the second quarter by scoring the first two baskets to bring the Queens within two points of tying the game. With just under three minutes to go until the halftime break, Maria Ghaleb gave the Queens the lead with the layup off the dish from Sigala. SAGU regained the lead 29-27 with just over two minutes until half, but Bobbie Fouquet drained the 3-pointer off the feed from Nestor to give the Queens a 30-29 lead. Linda Brice then sunk a 3-pointer in transition to give Wayland Baptist a 34-29 lead at the halftime break. The Queens only allowed five points the entire second quarter, and forced the Lions into shooting 7% in the quarter.

The Queens came out energized and went on a quick 6-0 burst to extend their lead to 39-29 and forced the Lions to take a 30-second time out. With just under two minutes remaining in the third and the Queens up by 11 points, Nestor cleaned up the offensive board for the putback through contact converting the and-one. Houston fed Nestor a nice pass for an easy layup to give the Queens a 14-point lead, but the Lions knocked down a jumper in the final thirty seconds to make it a 57-45 Flying Queen lead going into the final quarter.

After giving up a 4-0 run to begin the final frame, Nestor converted another and-one after cleaning up the offensive glass again for the Queens. The next possession down, Brice pushed the ball in transition to Nestor for another layup through contact to make it 62-49. With six minutes left, Fouquet followed a Queen missed three for an offensive rebound tip in to make it 69-52. The Queens put the game away down the stretch by knocking down their free throws to seal the Quarterfinal victory over SAGU, 82-62.

Nestor finished with 28 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists, and 10-14 shooting from the floor. Nestor now has 366 total rebounds on the season and needs just 5 rebounds to break Sharla Harrison's record of 371 total rebounds in season set in the 1988-89 season. Nestor is also going to break Gay Hemphill's season rebound average of 11.1 in the 1982-83 season – Nestor currently sits at 13.1 RPG.

Bobbie Fouquet added 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 9-15 shooting from the floor. Linda Brice scored 10 points, grabbed 3 rebounds, and had 4 assists. Taylor Houston finished with 12 points and 6 rebounds in 14 minutes off the bench. Emily Sigala was outstanding at getting her teammates involved, dishing a career high 11 assists in the win.
