Plainview – The #17 Flying Queens dominated the Eagles of Southwestern Christian University, 86-54, behind 26 points from
Kaitlyn Jerden. The Queens now moved to 21-2 on the season and 18-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
Wayland Baptist jumped all over Southwestern Christian in the opening frame of tonight's game – opening up a 15-5 lead in the first seven minutes after five different Queens scored points. Jerden capped off the first quarter for the Queens with a tough left-handed layup that made it 21-10 at the end of the quarter.
The Queens gave up a bucket on the Eagle's opening possession of the second quarter, but the Eagles were then held scoreless for the next five minutes as the Queens built up a 22-point lead. On this big scoring run for the Queens,
Bobbie Fouquet and
Emily Sigala each knocked down big threes to gain some momentum.
Over the next four minutes of the second quarter, Sigala and Fouquet would combine for three more three-pointers to push the Queens ahead 45-23 with under one minute left until the halftime break. Nestor scored a last-second bucket for the Queens to give them a 47-23 lead at the break.
The Queens carried their strong start into the second half as they continued to gradually build their lead, but with just over three minutes left in the quarter, Jerden would put the Queens ahead by 30-points with another three-pointer – making it 59-29. The Eagles would go on a small 9-3 scoring run to show some life, but the Queens extinguished after tough bucket on the inside from Nestor thanks to a beautiful feed from
Teodora Popovic to take a 64-40 lead into the fourth.
Jerden took over the game at the beginning of the fourth quarter after scoring the first seven points for the Queens to push them ahead, 71-42. Graduate
Jaycee Freshour put the dagger in the Eagles with an open three-pointer that made it 84-54 with just over one minute remaining. The Queens went on to win 86-54 in dominant fashion.

Jason Cooper recapped tonight's win, "We've had a really good week of practice. The girls are really locked down on getting a little revenge on SCU." Coach Cooper continued, "Thought we had a lot of hustle plays, and enthusiasm early on took control of the game early and didn't let go."
"It was really good to see Bobbie get going again. She played with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. Meg was very dominant in the post. She's really starting to do some of the other parts of the game well besides rebounding and scoring," said Coach Cooper.
Jerden scored 26 points – her fifth straight 20-point game – on 11/19 shooting from the floor, 4/9 from three, eight rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. Nestor added 21 points on 7/11 shooting from the floor, with 15 rebounds, and four assists – making this 18 double-doubles on season. Fouquet finished with a double-double, scoring 10 points with 11 rebounds and three assists. Sigala scored 13 points on 5/7 shooting and 3/4 from three, while dropping three assists.
The Queens will look to extend their winning streak to seven games when they host the Stars of Oklahoma City University for the 2025 Homecoming Game on Saturday, February 8
th. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
