PLAINVIEW, Texas – Wayland Baptist junior defensive back Tyrone Morgan has been named the PrestoSports NAIA Football Defensive Player of the Week for Oct. 26 following a standout performance in the Pioneers' 30-0 homecoming victory over Arkansas Baptist College on Saturday. Morgan also earned Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) Defensive Player of the Week honors for his efforts.
The Wichita Falls, Texas, native delivered a career night for the Pioneers, recording three interceptions, six solo tackles, and 55 interception return yards to help Wayland secure the shutout victory.
One of Morgan's biggest plays came late in the first half when Arkansas Baptist was threatening in Wayland territory. Morgan intercepted Buffalo quarterback Charles Coney at the Wayland 12-yard line and returned the ball to the Arkansas Baptist 33-yard line, halting the scoring opportunity before halftime.
Morgan's performance played a key role in a dominant defensive showing by the Pioneers, who held Arkansas Baptist scoreless while improving to 6-2 overall and 5-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
