PLAINVIEW, TX – The Wayland Baptist Men's and Women's Wrestling teams hosted Murray State College on Friday, October 23, for the Outdoor Quad Meet, turning in a combined 23 victories across the two competitions, including two forfeits, as the Pioneers continued their early-season action.
Competition began at 2:30 p.m., with both Wayland programs showcasing their talent across multiple weight classes.
MEN'S WRESTLING
The Pioneer men recorded 11 victories across 20 individual matches, highlighted by three falls, four technical falls, a major decision, two decisions and a victory by default.
At 125 pounds, Kyren Ramos opened with a dominant performance, earning an 18-1 technical fall over Murray State's D. Mayfield in just three minutes.
Wayland continued its success at 141 pounds, where M. Rogers secured a fall over E. Rivera at the 5:37 mark.
The Pioneers delivered back-to-back technical falls at 149 pounds. D. Mora defeated G. Wehr 18-1 in 2:07, while J. Two Lance followed with a 17-1 technical fall over K. Carter in 6:44.
At 157 pounds, K. Jensen earned a convincing 20-9 major decision over M. Hall.
Wayland added two victories at 165 pounds as C. Juarez recorded a 16-0 technical fall over M. Jefferson, while X. Vargas pinned T. Maderos in just 57 seconds.
J. An picked up a 10-3 decision at 174 pounds, and C. Williams secured an 8-5 decision at 184 pounds. R. Nino earned a victory by default at 197 pounds, while heavyweight J. Owens rounded out the Pioneer victories with a fall over K. Davis in 1:35.
WOMEN'S WRESTLING
The Wayland women recorded 12 credited victories across 18 listed results, including six falls, two major decisions, two decisions and two forfeits.
At 103 pounds, C. Connally received a forfeit victory, while A. Polk also earned a forfeit at 117 pounds.
M. Morales picked up a decision at 110 pounds, and A. Turner delivered a fall over B. Harris in just 1:22 at 131 pounds.
At 145 pounds, Wayland found success behind J. Suarez and D. Villa. Suarez earned a 10-0 major decision over A. Chronister, while Villa recorded two victories, pinning N. Edmisson in 1:56 before adding a 10-1 major decision over Z. Kurena.
The Pioneers continued their strong showing at 160 pounds as M. Casel secured a fall over C. Morris at the four-minute mark, while T. Silco earned a 13-8 decision over S. Vaughn.
Wayland delivered two of its quickest victories at 180 pounds. J. Daley pinned A. Bolton in just 40 seconds, followed by L. Lemus, who recorded a fall over M. Miller in only 17 seconds.
At 207 pounds, I. Kouokam added another victory for Wayland, pinning J. Bread in 2:32.
The Outdoor Quad Meet provided valuable competition for both Wayland programs as the Pioneers continue building experience and momentum through the early portion of the 2026-27 wrestling season.
