Wayland Baptist put together an impressive showing in both pairs and team competition, highlighting a strong all-around performance on the sand.
In the pairs challenge, the duo of Davanee McKinney and Aubrie Sierra led the way with a dominant run. The pair opened with a convincing straight-set victory over Huntington College (D3), 21-7 and 21-16, showcasing control from the start. They carried that momentum into their next match, defeating Vanguard University (D2) 21-17 and 21-15 to complete an undefeated day in pairs play.
On the team side, the Pioneers continued their success by winning their pool in the main competition. Wayland secured a 3-1 victory over Warner University, demonstrating depth across the lineup, before following it up with another 3-1 win against Webber International University.
With their strong performance, Wayland has advanced to the semifinals, which will take place tomorrow as they look to continue their momentum in tournament play.
