PLAINVIEW, Texas – Wayland Baptist University Athletics is proud to announce that former women's golf standout
Marina Gallegos will be inducted into the
Wayland Baptist University Athletics Hall of Honor as a member of the
2026 Hall of Honor Class. Gallegos becomes the
first women's golfer in program history to earn Hall of Honor induction, recognizing a collegiate career that established her among the most accomplished golfers to ever wear the Flying W.
A native of Madrid, Spain, Gallegos arrived at Wayland Baptist and quickly developed into one of the NAIA's premier golfers. Throughout her career, she helped elevate the Pioneer golf program while consistently competing among the nation's best, earning All-American recognition in three consecutive seasons.
Gallegos broke through during the 2014-15 season, earning
NAIA Second Team All-American honors after finishing
22nd at the NAIA Women's Golf National Championship, one of the highest national finishes in program history at the time. Her performance announced her arrival as one of the NAIA's elite competitors and laid the foundation for an outstanding collegiate career.
She followed with another exceptional season in 2015-16, earning
NAIA Third Team All-American recognition while posting a
77.25 scoring average, ranking
20th nationally among NAIA golfers. Gallegos advanced to the NAIA National Championship for the second consecutive year, tying for 66th place alongside her teammate Natalia Ugalde.
As a junior in 2016-17, Gallegos once again earned
NAIA Third Team All-American honors after recording a
78.44 scoring average, ranking
53rd in the NAIA. She narrowly missed advancing to the final round of the NAIA National Championship after finishing tied for 44th, further demonstrating her consistency against the nation's top competition.
During her Wayland career, Gallegos established herself as one of the most decorated golfers in program history. Her three NAIA All-American selections—highlighted by a Second Team honor and two Third Team recognitions—placed her among the elite players in the country while helping raise the profile of Wayland women's golf on the national stage.
Gallegos' success extended beyond individual accolades. Her dedication, consistency and competitive excellence helped build a strong foundation for the continued growth of the Pioneer golf program and inspired future generations of Wayland golfers. As the first women's golfer to be inducted into the Wayland Baptist University Athletics Hall of Honor, her selection represents both her remarkable achievements and the lasting impact she made on the program.
Her induction into the Hall of Honor serves as a fitting recognition of a career defined by excellence, perseverance and a commitment to representing Wayland Baptist University at the highest level of collegiate golf.
The 2026 Hall of Honor class will be formally inducted during a ceremony this fall as Wayland Baptist University celebrates the accomplishments and lasting legacy of its newest Hall of Honor members.
