NEWTON, KS. – The Wayland Baptist University men's golf team battled through three rounds of competition at the Mid-South Invitational, finishing eighth overall among 16 teams after posting a team score of 18-over par at Sand Creek Station.
The Pioneers opened the tournament at 7-over par in the first round before improving to 6-over in the second round and closing the tournament at 5-over in the final round.
Leading the way for Wayland was Sacha Brendle, who finished tied for 10th individually at 1-under par. Brendle opened the tournament with an even-par 71 before carding another 71 (-1) in the second round. He closed with a 73 (+1) in the final round to finish at 1-under for the tournament.
Brendle's second round featured one of the highlights of the tournament as he recorded an eagle on the par-5 fourth hole, helping the Pioneers maintain their momentum heading into the final round.
Leonard Lebrun finished tied for 30th at 6-over par. Lebrun opened with a 71 (-1) before shooting 78 (+6) in the second round. He bounced back in the final round with a 73 (+1) to finish the tournament at 6-over.
August Nord finished tied for 41st at 8-over par. Nord carded rounds of 75 (+3), 76 (+4) and 73 (+1), closing the tournament with his strongest round of the event.
Enzo Dakiche also finished at 6-over par, placing tied for 30th. After opening with a 78 (+6), Dakiche delivered one of Wayland's best rounds of the tournament in the second round, firing a 69 (-3). He finished with a 75 (+3) in the final round.
Alexandre Genet finished tied for 68th at 14-over par after rounds of 75 (+3), 76 (+4) and 79 (+7).
Maxime Olivo rounded out the Pioneers' competitors, finishing tied for 79th at 19-over par. Olivo posted rounds of 80 (+8), 81 (+9) and 74 (+2), closing the tournament with a nine-shot improvement from his second round.

The Pioneers' eighth-place finish marks their first tournament of the 2026-27 season. The Pioneers will return to the course for their next tournament at the Andrew Invitational, set for Sept. 11-13 in Andrews, Texas.
