David Sparkman joins the Pioneer coaching staff as Defensive Coordinator after stints as both an assistant and as a head coach at several high schools throughout the Texas Panhandle region.
A graduate of Alice High School in Alice, Texas, Sparkman went on to earn a degree from Texas A&M University. He coached football, basketball, track, baseball and golf at Cuero High School before moving to Fort Bend Clements where he assisted with the football, baseball and track teams.
Sparkman began heading north when he took a job as football and head track coach at South Grand Prairie High School.
He worked on Coach Butch Henderson’s staff at Lubbock Coronado High School where he served as defensive coordinator. He left Coronado to take over as head football coach and athletic director at Panhandle High School.
After a stint as assistant football and basketball coach at Canyon High School in Canyon, Texas, Sparkman moved to Shallowater, Texas, where he assisted with the football, powerlifting and tennis teams.
Sparkman and his wife, Kellye, an English teacher and tennis coach, have two children, Zachary and Maci.
