The Pioneers came up with a pair of national runner-up finishes, taking second indoors for the fifth time in the last six years, including three straight, and tying for second outdoors. WBU has finished second (or tied for second) at the last four national meets. Indoors, WBU finished with 71 points, just five behind Indiana Tech, and produced an NAIA national record in the 4x400-meter relay. Senior Durawn Howard was part of that team (WBU’s ninth straight national championship in the 4x400, indoors and outdoors) and also first in the 200. Benard Keter won the 5,000. Outdoors, WBU tied with Indiana Tech with 55 points, four behind Concordia, Neb. An unfortunate baton drop in preliminaries of the 4x400 relay proved costly for the Pioneers. Junior Kabroderan Handsborough was the top point producer for Wayland as he finished first and as part of the 4x100 and third in the 200. Keter won the 3,000 steeplechase. WBU has finished no worse than fourth at indoor and outdoor national championships the last 11 meets.
