Jose Alvarez, a sophomore from Hereford who last year became Wayland’s first men’s all-American in wrestling, made more WBU wrestling history last weekend when he earned a silver medal – the highest finish ever for a WBU wrestler – at the NAIA national meet in Des Moines, Iowa. “Chino” won his first four matches before falling in the finals of the 174-pound division against the defending champion, 5-2. “Everybody associated with our program is just so proud of Chino,” coach Johnny Cobb said. “There are so many guys that would give their whole careers to make the national finals, but he's certainly not satisfied. He didn't much care for second place, but he's got two more years to win this thing. He'll go back to the gym and start working that much harder to make it happen.”
