J.J., a 6-foot-4 junior guard from Lubbock, helped the No. 20 Pioneers to two Sooner Athletic Conference-opening wins. He scored a season-high 29 points and pulled down nine rebounds in a 95-88 win over Science & Arts of Oklahoma, which is ranked the equivalent of 28^th in the NAIA. In a 70-50 win over Mid-America Christian, J.J. put in 17 points and pulled down seven rebounds. He totaled three steals, three assists and a block in  both games while shooting 71 percent (17-of-24) from the field, 70 percent (7-of-10) 3-pointers, and 71 percent (5-of-7) free throws.
