Pioneers Shut Out MACU

The Pioneer baseball team won the game 13-0 and took the series 2-1 over Mid-America Christian Saturday afternoon in Oklahoma City.

After struggling at the plate on Friday, the Pioneers accumulated 13 hits in the final contest of the series. Senior catcher Brett Sheppard collected three of the hits, while Michael Prell and Eddie Allen got two each.

Josh Lucas hit a massive three-run blast into a stiff wind over the fence in left field, while Allen, Pedro Gomez and pinch hitter Courtney Williams each had line drive doubles into the gaps. Todd Jeffress and Javier Garcia picked up two RBIs a piece, Garcia's on a pinch hit single in the sixth.

Starting pitcher Christopher McNeil improved his record to 4-1 with his second shutout of the season. The junior from San Jose, Calif. gave up four hits in six innings of work, struck out eight and walked one. Brett Swett retired the side in order in the seventh.

WBU played flawless defense, making several outstanding plays, none better than second baseman Brett Cook's diving stop and throw of a ball headed up the middle in the second inning.

The Pioneers, 22-4 and 7-2, face their biggest test of the season so far when #1 Oklahoma City comes to Wilder Field on Friday and Saturday, March 13-14 for a three game conference series. First pitch of Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for 4 p.m.
