Buffs Stampede Pioneers

AMARILLO, Tex. --- The Wayland Baptist Pioneers lost a non-conference game to West Texas A&M University, 11-3, on Wednesday afternoon at The Dilla Villa. The loss drops the Pioneers at 15-9 overall. WBU resumes Sooner Athletic Conference play on Thursday at Edmond, Okla. against Oklahoma Christian University.

Seven WTA&M pitchers combined to hold the Pioneers to just eight hits in the nine-inning contest. Junior shortstop Eddie Allen had three hits, including two doubles. Michael Prell, the senior second baseman, and junior DH Brian Hennessey picked up two hits a piece. Prell, Pedro Gomez and Josh Lucas each picked up an RBI.

Four Pioneer errors led to four unearned runs by the Buffaloes, who improved their record to 6-10 on the season. Wayland also hit into two double plays and left nine men on base.

Justin Eatherly started on the mound for WBU, surrendering one earned run on four hits in three innings of work. The senior from Forney, Tex. struck out three. Sophomore Jobi Sanchez took the loss in relief. The former Plainview Bulldog gave up just one unearned run on two hits and struck out one over two innings. JT Huckabay, Ryan Heenan and Andy Craig each threw one inning.

First pitch for the OC series, which was moved up a day due to threat of inclimate weather on Saturday, is set for 5 p.m. on Thursday. Friday afternoon's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m.
