Pioneer Baseball Gets Back on Winning Track

SHAWNEE, Okla --- The Wayland Baptist Pioneers improved to 21-13 on the season and 11-6 in Sooner Athletic Conference play with a 10-3, 9-7 doubleheader sweep over St. Gregory's University on a windy Tuesday afternoon.

In the first game, Michael Prell went 4-for-4 with a double and a home run, while lead-off hitter Eddie Allen was a single short of a cycle and had three RBI.

Junior centerfielder Scott Keane had two hits, including a solo homer in the seventh, and Jose Santiago picked up a double.

Marcus Limon went the distance for the Pioneers, striking out ten and walking just two. The junior from Lubbock improved to 6-2 on the season.

Junior third baseman Kevin Hennessey hit his NAIA-leading 14th home run of the season, a three-run shot down the left field line, and Pedro Gomez had three hits, including a double, to lead Wayland in the nightcap.  The Pioneers had three other doubles in the game, one each by Allen, Prell, and Keane.

Todd Weldon (7-3) got the win, striking out ten in six innings of work.

The two teams finish out the series on Wednesday afternoon with a single game beginning at 1 p.m.
