Chickasha, Okla. --- Kevin Hennessey had two home runs and six RBI, but it wasn't enough to put the Pioneers over the top in a 12-8 loss in the final game of a three-games series against USAO on Saturday.
Hennessey got WBU on the scoreboard first with a solo home run to lead off the second inning. The Drovers tied it up in their half of the inning with an unearned run, but the Pioneers regained the lead with a bases loaded walk and then went ahead on a two-run homer in the third. USAO scored one more in the fourth and three each in the fifth and sixth to take a 10-2 lead.
Wayland made it 10-5 with three runs in the top of the seventh. Eddie Allen had an infield hit, Michael Prell followed with a single to center, and Brian Embery hit a one-run double to right. Hennessey picked up another RBI with a ground-out to third and Embery scored from second on an error by the Drover pitcher.
USAO made it 12-5 in their at bat in the seventh. Neither team crossed home plate in the eighth, but the Pioneers made one final charge in their last at bat. Prell led off the frame with a double, advanced to third on Embery's hit to left field, and both scored on Hennessey's eighth home run of the season.
Pedro Gomez followed with another single, but a double play ball and a ground out to the catcher ended all hopes for a comeback.
Prell had three hits for the Pioneers, while Allen, Embery and Gomez had two hits each.
WBU is now 12-8 on the season and 2-4 in conference play. The Pioneers return to Wilder Field on Friday and Saturday for another SAC series against Rogers State University.
