SHAWNEE, Okla. --- Wayland Baptist won a three-set match over St. Gregory's University on Friday evening, 25-22, 25-18, 25-16. The Colombian duo of Tatiana Gonzalez and Kate Trejos combined for 31 kills and 23 digs, and fellow senior Kimberli Harger recorded a team-high 20 digs in the victory, the 18th of the season for the Pioneer netters.
"The first set was very close, but we opened it up in the last two," said WBU coach Jim Giacomazzi. "Overall we played pretty good. We were definitely better prepared to step from the bus to the court and compete today than we were on Tuesday."
Gonzalez had 16 kills and 10 digs, while Trejos put down 15 and got 13 digs. Freshman Ashley Duff recorded five kills and had three solo blocks, and sophomore setter Natasha Giacomazzi posted her team-leading 21st double-double of the season with 30 assists and 17 digs.
"Kate and Tatiana did a good job tonight. They had a lot of attacks. We'll need to work the middle a lot more to be successful tomorrow against OBU. It's going to take a total team effort."
