#11 Lewis & Clark Pounds Pioneers

Box Score

ANTHEM, Ariz. --- Four Pioneer pitchers combined to strike out 12 batters from #11 Lewis & Clark State College on Friday.  Unfortunately the LCSC hitters also got 12 hits, including six home runs, in the 16-5 Warrior victory.

Wayland scored first after Colton Palmer led off the bottom of the first with a double to left field.  The freshman leftfielder advanced to third on a ground out and went home on Johnny Hendrixson's RBI single to right.

After a scoreless second, LCSC put up a five spot in the third on a single, two homers and two hit batters.  The Warriors hit solo home runs in the fifth and sixth to make it 7-1, and then exploded for nine in the top of the seventh.

The Pioneers crossed the plate twice in the eighth on a run scoring double by Hendrixson and a sacrifice fly off the bat of sophomore catcher Brandon Espinosa.  Two more runs went across in the final half inning after Josh Carroll doubled down the right field line, Calvin Bass walked and Dilon Chancellor drove them both in with a two-bagger in the right centerfield gap.

Senior southpaw Kevin Burbank was saddled with the loss.  The Phoenix, Ariz. native struck out seven and walked one in six innings of work.  Freshman Cooper Reinbold pitched a scoreless ninth, striking out one.

WBU completes its stay in the desert with a game on Saturday morning against Point Loma Nazarene University.
