CHICKSHA, Okla. --- USAO scored five unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on Saturday afternoon to pick up an 11-7 victory and complete a three-game sweep over Wayland Baptist.
USAO grabbed the early lead in the series finale with two runs in the first, but WBU came back and tied it in the third. Johnny Hendrixson started the inning off with a single, stole second, and came home on freshman shortstop Chris Buitron's base hit to right centerfield. Colton Palmer, the Pioneers' freshman centerfielder, followed with another single, and Buitron crossed homeplate on Calvin Bass's fielder's choice.
The Drovers regained the lead with a run in the home half of the inning, but junior rightfielder Josh Chinni hit his ninth home run of the season to lead off the fourth to make it 3-3.
Hendrixson slammed a three-run homer with two outs in the top of the sixth to put the Pioneers on top 6-3, but the Drovers tied it up in the bottom of the inning with a three-run blast of their own.
An inning later, the home team broke it open, plating the five runs on three hits, including another three-run long ball, and one costly WBU error.
Plainview senior Jobi Sanchez picked up the loss in relief of starter Kevin Burbank who went six-plus innings.
Chinni and Hendrixson had four of WBU's eight hits. Bass picked up his second RBI of the game with a two-out single in the top of the ninth that scored Mikey Nabarrette.
The Pioneers (10-18, 1-11) begin a ten-game homestand on Tuesday evening when they host the Buffaloes of West Texas A&M. First pitch of that game is set for 6 p.m.
