SAC recognizes Welch, Driskill

Wayland Baptist's Emily Welch and Chelsey Driskill have been recognized as the Sooner Athletic Conference Libero of the Week and Hitter of the Week, respectively. Welch and Driskill helped the No. 22 Pioneers to a pair of Sooner Athletic Conference road wins last week over Southwestern Assemblies of God University in three and Texas Wesleyan University in four.
 
Welch, a 5-foot-7 junior from Plainview, led the Pioneers in digs in both matches, getting 13 against SAGU and 23 – second only to her 30 against Oklahoma Baptist earlier this season – against Texas Wesleyan for a 5.14 per set average. She had a season-high four aces against SAGU and one against TWU.
 
It marks the second time in three weeks for Driskill to earn conference Hitter of the Week honors. The 6-1 junior from Lubbock averaged 3.14 kills per set and got a team-high 14 kills against Texas Wesleyan. She hit .362 for the week.
 
SAC Player of the Week is Meghan Irwin of Oklahoma City University. Conference Setter of the Week is OCU's Hannah Mitcham.

Winners of six straight, the Pioneers (15-9 overall, 8-2 SAC) play an exhibition match against Zhejiang, the No. 2 national team from China, at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Hutcherson Center. Wayland then returns to SAC play to face St. Gregory's (6-17, 2-8) at 7 p.m. Friday and John Brown University (16-8, 7-4) at 11 a.m. Saturday.
