Anderson, Afunugo post double-doubles vs. ACU

Box Score ABILENE – Stephanie Afunugo and LaTericka Anderson both had double-doubles, but the Wayland Baptist Flying Queens fell to Abilene Christian here Saturday night, 91-64.

The loss drops Wayland to 2-2 while it was the season-opener for NCAA Division I ACU.

The Wildcats, who led 40-26 at halftime, took advantage of 29 Wayland turnovers, 16 of which came in the first half. ACU turned it over 17 times.

Wayland also struggled shooting, especially from long range was the Flying Queens made just one of 11 3-pointers. WBU shot 32 percent overall from the field compared to ACU's 44 percent. The Flying Queens make 21-of-28 free throws (75 percent), including 16-of-19 in the second half.

Afunugo ended with 17 points and 10 rebounds – her second straight double-double – while Anderson got 11 points and a career-high 17 boards. Iesha Greer also reached double-figures with 12 points and had eight rebounds.

ACU was paced by sophomore guard Alexis Mason with 19 points, Lizzy Dimba with 17 and Suzzy Dimba with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
WBU outrebounded the Wildcats, 52-46.

The Flying Queens next play their only home game of the semester against University of the Southwest at 2 p.m. Saturday. Wayland defeated the Lady Mustangs in their season-opener in Hobbs, N.M., on Nov. 4, 90-57.
