Stephanie Afunugo scored 18 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead the Wayland Baptist Flying Queens to a 76-43 victory over Benedictine (Kan.) on the second day of the AmericInn Benedictine College Classic here Saturday afternoon.
The Queens (2-1), who on Friday fell to No. 16 MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.), 94-79, had no problem with Benedictine (1-2), which edged St. Gregory's (Okla.) on Friday, 61-59. St. Greg's was edged by MidAmerica Nazarene on Saturday, 60-59.
Besides her double-double, Afunugo also had four assists, three steals and two blocks against Benedictine.
Shawna Monreal and
Gabby Gonzales put in 11 points apiece, with Gonzales hitting half of Wayland's six 3-pointers.
Iesha Greer tacked on six points and eight boards.
Nine of the 10 players scored for Wayland, which was in command at halftime, 35-18. The Queens ended with 21 assists, with Afunugo, Monreal and
Regan Hestand getting four each. Wayland held a 58-44 rebounding edge.
The Queens next play at Abilene Christian at 5 p.m. Nov. 15. Their only home game this semester is Nov. 22 against University of the Southwest, a team Wayland beat in Hobbs, N.M., in its season-opener, 90-57.
