Wintry weather threat postpones baseball's home-opener

The threat of wintry weather has caused the postponement of the Wayland Baptist baseball team's home-opening doubleheader on Thursday.

The Pioneers (1-2) were due to play University of the Southwest (Hobbs, N.M.) on Thursday afternoon at Wilder Field. Now, because of predicted bitterly cold temperatures and possible snow on Thursday, those games have been moved to Sunday, with first pitch set for 1 p.m.

The games will be the first played on Wayland's new artificial turf infield. A formal dedication ceremony of the turf will take place prior to Wayland's Feb. 21 games against MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.), starting around 1:45 p.m.

Wayland's games against University of the Southwest in Hobbs beginning at 11 a.m. (CST) are still scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. (CST) Saturday.
