For the fourth year, Pioneer baseball and the Wayland Baptist Relay for Life team are joining forces to raise money for the fight against cancer.
Â
On Saturday afternoon during the Pioneers' doubleheader against McMurry, the WBU Relay for Life team will conduct a silent auction of Pioneers players' jerseys. All money raised from the auction will go to the WBU Relay for Life team as part of the Hale County Relay for Life benefitting the American Cancer Society.
Â
Also, all proceeds from the concession stand on Saturday will benefit the WBU Relay for Life team.
Â
As part of the initiative, cancer survivor Brandon Henry, 14-year-old son of WBU External Admissions Representative Denise Henry, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
Â
The doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. at Wilder Field. Admission is free.
Â
Saturday's games also are being billed as a "Doggie Doubleheader." Fans are invited to bring their dogs to the games. All dogs must be leashed and well-mannered. Treats and fresh water will be provided.
Â
In between games at approximately 3 p.m., local dog trainers Regina Edwards and Nancy Lewis will give an on-field agility demonstration with their dogs, who are specially-trained to perform obstacle course tasks such as jumping through tires, running through tunnels, traversing a teeter-totter, and weaving through a series of poles.
