Wayland Baptist's
Krystal Forthan has been named Sooner Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the first such honor for the Flying Queens this season.
Â
Forthan, a 6-foot-4 senior forward from Portland, Ore., averaged a double-double – 15½ points and 12½ rebounds – in helping the No. 21 Flying Queens to road victories over Texas Wesleyan (91-60) and Southwestern Assemblies of God University (78-51). She recorded season-highs for points with 20 and rebounds with 15 against Texas Wesleyan, making 9-of-11 field goals.
Â
For the week she shot 50 percent from the field (13-of-26) and 67 percent (4-of-6) from the free-throw line. She also tallied four assists, four blocks and four steals.
Â
Forthan, a transfer who has battled injuries throughout the season, has helped Wayland (12-4) to eight straight wins, the program's longest streak since the start of the 1999-2000 season.
Â
Forthan now is eligible for NAIA National Player of the Week honors.
Â
The Flying Queens next play at No. 12 Oklahoma City (11-4, 8-0) in a matchup of SAC leaders at 6 p.m. Thursday. The Stars have won six in a row.
