Results ORANGE, Calif. – Wayland Baptist swimming and diving coach Alyson Hannan took her team back to her old stomping grounds this week and took on Chapman University in a dual Friday.
The No. 5 men's team defeated Chapman, 153-41, while the No. 8 women's team came up on the short end, 133-86. Hannan said the women's squad was shorthanded or likely would have prevailed.
Overall, Wayland won the meet, 239-174.
"We've been training really hard, doing about 14,000 yards a day which is a lot for winter training," Hannan said. "We did a good job at this meet considering we're swimming so hard in practices right now preparing for nationals. The meet was more to see how our training is going."
Hannan said newcomer
Lukas Helbing, who joined the team at semester, performed tremendously in his first meet with the Pioneers.
"Lukas did a phenomenal job considering this is new training for him, new surroundings, new everything," she said of her new recruit from Germany.
The Pioneers next compete in a dual against the University of Texas of the Permian Basin of Odessa on Jan. 23 in Midland. Hannan said a meet in February is pending prior to the NAIA National Championships set to begin March 3 in Columbus, Ga.
