Women 1st, men 2nd at WBU Swim Invite

Final Results  LUBBOCK – As the Wayland Invitational came to an end Saturday afternoon at the Pete Ragus Aquatics Center here, the Pioneer women's swimming and diving team secured first place while the men's team finished second.

At their second official competition of the season, the WBU women finished with 689 points, 79 points ahead of second-place Texas-Permian Basin. UTPB grabbed first on the men's side with 1,296 points, ahead of Wayland's 834. A total of five women's teams and four men's teams participated.

WBU head coach Alyson Hannan was very satisfied with the outcome of the meet. She mentioned that the relay times were faster than those from nationals last year, which she sees as quite promising.

"The team really stepped up to prepare themselves for this meet. We still need to focus on small things like finishing out a race without getting as tired, but they did really well," Hannan said.

Wayland also qualified more members of its teams for nationals.

Hannan stated that the team is ahead of schedule in that regard and that she is looking forward to their next meet and what this team can accomplish.

The squad's next appearance will be in Abilene at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11 against Texas-Permian Basin.
