OKLAHOMA CITY – After a promising start, things went a bit south for the 11
th-ranked Wayland Baptist men's wrestling team at the Oklahoma City University/Champion-Hotel Duals here Monday.
The Pioneers began the duals with a convincing 48-12 win over York, Neb., which is ranked the equivalent of 27
th in the NAIA. Wayland then dropped its next three duals against No. 8 Campbellsville, Ky., 26-13, No. 13 Concordia, Neb., 24-15, and NCAA Division II Central Oklahoma, 39-3.
"It wasn't the best day for us, but we got to see a lot stronger competition than we've seen so far this year. That will help us a lot down the road," WBU assistant coach

Zach Mitchell stood out for Wayland. "Chino" Alvarez went undefeated in his two matches in the 174-pound division while Mitchell finished with a 3-1 record for the day in 165s.
"Chino was only our win against Central Oklahoma, so that was a bright spot for him," Schmitz said.
Next, the WBU men will join the Pioneer women at the NWCA National Duals set for Jan. 5 and 6 in Fort Wayne, Ind.
