Box Score  With major production from their bench, the No. 17 Wayland Baptist Flying Queens, topped Bacone College on Thursday night in Sooner Athletic Conference action, 94-48.
The conference-leading Flying Queens (15-4, 10-1 SAC) had trouble early against the Lady Warriors (7-13, 3-8), who forced Wayland into eight turnovers in the first quarter.
"They just caused a lot of turnovers," WBU coach
Alesha Robertson-Ellis said about her team's frustrating start. "Those guys just hung around."
After giving up 13 points off of 45 percent shooting in the first quarter, the Queens held the Warriors to only eight points and 30 percent shooting at the half. Wayland put it on cruise control in the second half to come away with its 11th
straight win.
The majority of the production came from the bench, especially junior forward
Jade Jones who finished with a game-high 18 points and 11 rebounds. Jones earned  her fourth double-doubles on the season.
"We tell our post players that they have to show up," Robertson-Ellis said. "She stepped up and caused the other team a lot of problems. She also played very well on the defensive end."
Along with Jones, the Queens were boosted by the play of senior guard
Brianna Bogard and Reagan Hestand. Bogard had 17 points and Hestand a season-high 10 as she went 2-for-2 from the behind the arc.
"The more players we play, the better our team gets," Robertson-Ellis said.
Wayland's bench players outscored the starters, 56-42.
Senior
Laura Castillo,
Stephanie Afunugo and junior
Shayla Monreal also put up big numbers, Castillo 12 points, Afunugo 10 and Monreal 15.
"Our seniors have to show up every game," Robertson-Ellis said. "They take pride in carrying the load."
Another big takeaway from the game was the Queens' ability to pass, totaling 30 assists. The last time they amassed that many was Dec. 18 in a win against McMurry, 91-69, when they dished out 31.
"We've gotten better at it every day," Robertson-Ellis said. "We always try to pass up a good shot for a great shot."
Next for the Flying Queens will be a chance to avenge the only loss they have in conference before the winning streak began at 1 p.m. Saturday at home against John Brown (13-10, 6-5). John Brown defeated Wayland 63-58 Dec. 3. The Golden Eagles defeated Southwestern Christian on Thursday, 66-58.
"We have to go into that game knowing that we are a better team than we were last time and not be timid," Robertson-Ellis said. "Their post play is really good, so our post will have to step up as well."
