Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY – Much like they did five weeks earlier, the Wayland Baptist volleyball team opened the second half of Sooner Athletic Conference play here Friday night with a convincing win over Mid-America Christian University, 25-17, 25-21, 25-21.
"We had a good night tonight," WBU coach
Jim Giacomazzi said.
Wayland (15-9, 7-5 SAC) got strong offensive play from several players, chiefly
Amber Daniel and
Megan Sharratt who logged 12 kills each and Mallorie Elllis who ended with 11. Daniel set a season-high by hitting .478 (the freshman's previous best was .333) while Ellis hit .409 and Sharratt .333.
"Megan, Mallorie and Amber had a lot of quality approaches and it resulted in a lot of kills," Giacomazzi said.
The Pioneers hit .333 as a team with 48 kills, compared to 34 kills and .216 hitting percentage.
Daniel also led WBU with nine digs, followed by Ellis and libero
Jordan Breding with eight each.
Elisabeth Piroli tacked on six to go with her 43 assists. Ellis was credited with half of her team's six aces.
"Jordan showed a lot of hustle and ran down some balls that looked out of reach," Giacomazzi said.
