Flying Queens hosting, Pioneers traveling for Sooner Athletic Conference Tourney openers

Wayland Baptist's Flying Queens will get a chance to avenge a hard-to-swallow loss while the Pioneers will try to repeat a home victory on the road when both teams open Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament play Tuesday.

The 13th-ranked Flying Queens (23-5), the No. 2 seed in the tournament after finishing 14-4 in the SAC, will host Southwestern Christian (15-12) at 6 p.m. in Hutcherson Center. In addition to normal streaming video and audio and live stats with links available at www.wbuathletics.com, Ben Catley will broadcast the game locally on 103.9-FM.

Wayland lost to the Lady Eagles on Thursday, 67-65, snapping a 22-game home winning streak.

The winner advances to Oklahoma City where the rest of the tournament will be played out Friday and Saturday.

The tournament champion automatically advances to the NAIA Women's National Tournament in Billings, Mont.

The Pioneers (18-12) finished in a three-way tie for fourth place in the conference and wound up with the No. 5 seed, just missing a chance to host a first-round game. Instead, Wayland travels to Chickasha, Okla., to face fourth-seeded Science and Arts of Oklahoma (16-13) at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

In addition to USAO's live streaming and live stats, Danny Andrews will be in Chickasha to broadcast the game locally on KVOP-AM and streaming at www.network1sports.com/station/kvop.

That game is a rematch of a thrilling 113-107 double-overtime win for Wayland in the regular-season finale Saturday afternoon in the Hutch.

The Pioneers-Drovers winner advances to Oklahoma City University for the rest of the tournament Friday and Saturday.

The tournament champion automatically qualifies for the NAIA Men's National Tournament in Kansas City, Mo.

All coverage links for both of Tuesday's games are available on www.wbuathletics.com.
