Morgan Bennett has been named Sooner Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
A 5-foot-8 junior guard from Shallowater, Bennett helped the unbeaten, sixth-ranked Flying Queens to a pair of home wins over teams receiving NAIA Top 25 votes to open conference play.
In a 71-65 victory over Science & Arts of Oklahoma, ranked the equivalent of 28
th in the NAIA, Bennett matched her season-high by scoring 20 points plus had five assists, two rebounds and a steal. Then in a 101-82 victory over previously-unbeaten Mid-America Christian (Okla.), ranked the equivalent of 27
th in the NAIA, Bennett posted 15 points, seven boards and four assists.
For the week, she shot 48 percent (11-of-23) from the field, 39 percent (5-of-13) from 3-point range, and 89 percent (8-of-9) from the free-throw line.
Bennett now is eligible for NAIA Player of the Week.
Bennett, who led the NAIA in assists last season (6.1 per game), this year ranks 14
th in 3-pointers made per game (2.8) and 17
th in assists per game (5.2).
The Flying Queens travel to Espanola, N.M., on Tuesday to take on Northern New Mexico in a non-conference game at 6 p.m. CST.
