Wayland Baptist Flying Queen
Maci Merket has been named Sooner Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
Merket, a 5-foot-10 junior guard from Canadian, Texas, helped the No. 6 Flying Queens' to home wins over Central Christian, Kan., 95-59, and No. 4, defending NAIA national champion Oklahoma City, 73-66.

Merket led the team in scoring in both victories, hitting 17 points against Central Christian and a season-high 22 against OCU, when she also logged her fifth double-double of the season with 13 rebounds. She has one triple-double (14 points, 14 rebounds, 14 assists) on Feb. 3 against Texas Wesleyan.

For the week, Merket averaged 19.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.0 steals.

It's Merket's second SAC Player of the Week recognition this season. She first was recognized Nov. 20.

Merket leads the Flying Queens in scoring (14.7), rebounds (6.8) and steals (2.5), and is second in assists (3.2). She is shooting 85 percent (34-of-46) from the free-throw line.

In her third season at Wayland, Merket has 860 career points going into tonight's game against Oklahoma Panhandle State in Goodwell, Okla., starting at 6 p.m.

The Flying Queens' 20-3 record is their best since 1986-87 when the team went 31-1 and advanced to the NAIA Elite 8.
