Pitcher
Tanner Solomon and quarter-miler
Demetrius Turner are Wayland Baptist Student-Athletes of the Week.
Solomon pitched a complete game as the Pioneers ended No. 19 Texas Wesleyan's 17-game winning streak with a 10-5 victory Friday at Wilder Field. In seven innings, the freshman from Phoenix scattered nine hits, allowed just one earned run, struck out two and walked two as he compiled a 1.29 ERA. He threw 105 pitches. It was Solomon's first complete game in just his third start of his career. Said Coach
Brad Bass: "Tanner was incredible. That allowed us to have (enough) pitchers to go (Saturday)" when Wayland split a doubleheader to take the series.
Turner, a sophomore from Killeen, ran the NAIA's thirds-best 400 of the season, 47.49 seconds, at the Ross Black Invitational hosted by New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs. Turner also helped the Pioneers' 4x400 relay team to a meet record time of 3:14.01, which met an "A" national-qualifying standard.
