Box Score WAXAHACHIE – For the second time this season, Wayland Baptist fell to Southwestern Assemblies of God University in four sets as the Pioneers' volleyball team went down to the Lions on Friday night here, 25-21, 23-25, 26-24, 25-15.
"It was a little disappointing. I thought we could beat them," Wayland coach
Jim Giacomazzi said following the Sooner Athletic Conference match-up.
Wayland (13-16, 8-9 SAC) got a strong performance from junior
Sadie Hall, who ended with eight kills to match her career-high. She swung 25 times and led the team with a .200 hitting percentage, boosted by an impressive .800 in the third set.
"Sadie had a career night," Giacomazzi said.
Tatijana Markic led Wayland with 11 kills while
Jordan Breding paced the Pioneers with 23 digs, followed by
Brenna Daniel with 14,
Tevia Bell with 12 and
Renzelle Horner with 11. Horner played despite being under the weather.
"We're doing better with our hitting, we just didn't have enough kills," Giacomazzi said, adding, "We played, I'd say, three good sets. We just didn't make enough hay."
The Pioneers fell to SAGU (19-8, 12-5) late last month in Plainview, 25-23, 24-26, 25-18, 25-20.
Wayland remains in the Metroplex to take on Texas Wesleyan at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Rams (19-7, 14-3 SAC) defeated Oklahoma-Panhandle State on Friday, 25-13, 25-11, 25-16, after beating SAGU on the road Tuesday, 29-31, 25-21, 25-27, 28-30.
The Pioneers took Texas Wesleyan to five in their first meeting before falling, 25-22, 20-25, 25-21, 17-25, 15-7.
